Abstract:

Incorporated municipality bounaries (City Limits) within the County of San Luis Obispo, California. Coordinates for this dataset are State Plane Coordinates (California Coordinate System of 1983 - Zone 5, based on NAD83).

Purpose:

These data provide suitable jurisdiction information for many regional mapping applications. These data are appropriate for use at a regional scale and are intended for reference and analysis purposes.

Supplemental_Information:

This shapefile was created from the "slo_parcel" shapefile as provided by contract to the San Luis Obsipo County Planning Department from Barclay. Barclay created this file from digitized images of Assessor's Parcel Maps drawn to various scales representing the cadastral coverage for San Luis Obispo County. Barclay parcels identified with each of the 84 Assessor's Map Books were first selected, exported and merged to create a new "assessor map books" shapefile. Those map book features associated with incorporated cities were then selected and saved to a new layer which was verified for spatial integrity against current scanned Assessor Maps, Tax Rate Area Maps, individual city limit boundary legal descriptions and edited as necessary. Those features identified with specific city limits were then selected, exported and merged to create the "CityLimits" shapefile.
